What Is In The Darkness
MUST BE BROUGHT OUT TO THE LIGHT,
WHERE IT CAN BE SEEN AND OFFERED UP
I don’t recall where I first read this quote, but it captures the essence of what appears to be going on almost every where I look these days. It is happening within structures, organizations and relationships. There is darkness being brought out to the light.
When I consciously observe the flow of my thoughts the darkest and the brightest appear to emerge at random. They can come and go like a fleeting blip and then there are times I am painfully aware of those that feel like the sound of a broken record. There is no right or wrong way to observe ones thoughts, of course, for they have a life of their own, resurfacing when least expected. But as anyone knows who has explored the practice of meditation, the key to attaining mental equilibrium is to find the place beyond the ego-mind to a state of stillness or pure consciousness.
This where mental impressions are free from the ever turning wheel of the mind and there is reception to the directive of clear intention. The directed flow of consciousness that contains the essence of that which you desire to create must then be released of any attachment in order to reside in this quiet field of infinite possibility. This offering up allows us to rest in a place of acceptance which acknowledges the dark is a part of all things growing and evolving.
Whatever is surfacing from within and around us is an opportunity for deeper understanding of what has manifested from our awareness in the past. That which is falling apart in these intense times of transformation is nudging us to revision our future. As Deepak Chopra reminds us, we must trust that the organizing power of this field of infinite possibility is the fertile ground of our potentiality and by releasing our our intentions and our need to control, we are trusting that through something greater than ourselves they will bloom when the time is right.

In shamanism this is known as a ‘dismemberment’ experience. It is a powerful reminder through the practice of journeying that we can see and/or feel what we are truly made of as we witness our ego or external self feeling lost, broken, devoured or going up in flames. This sense of loss is a part of the natural cycle of life in preparation for death, that becomes our ‘offering’ for the next step, which is letting it all go. By saying Yes! we are opening our eyes to the wisdom teaching or more precisely, the re-membering, or reconstruction of our true self…the light. The spark of life that is the source of our own creation.
During this season of darkness may whatever presents itself to be seen from within you, be offered up with ease and grace to the light that will ignite the seeds you have been sowing in the fertile soil of your heart. May it bring forth a vision for new opportunities of abundance, love, health and balance in 2018. Aho!
Leading With Optimism
WAS THE TITLE ON THE COVER OF THE FEBRUARY ISSUE
And the tag line of Fast Company magazine’s feature read; “THE FUTURE IS UNCERTAIN. CHANGE IS COMING FASTER THAN EVER. IT’S CRUCIAL TO FOCUS ON THE POSSIBILITIES AHEAD.”
The cover photo caught my eye along with a highlighted ‘Here’s How’ of 185 inspiring lessons from leaders around the world. But, once I paged through the article it reminded me of watching a movie trailer and finding out that it was, for all practical purposes, the movie! Interesting looking people, artful photographs but alas, no instructions! So I quickly realized the golden nugget is actually the line “It’s crucial to focus on the possibilities ahead.”
Yes, this is the pearl in the oyster…to bring our focus to the possibilities that may just be a dream or a “what if?’ right now. With all the uncertainty that seems to surround us when things suddenly change directions in the blink of a ‘tweet’ and are heightened with more of the latest ‘Me Too’ confessions (sigh), seeing things optimistically can feel far from what is possible. Some days simply taking the next breath is all one can do to endure the grittiness of what is unfolding before us.
Of course the grittiness, as with the creation of a pearl, is the irritation we experience when life offers, or at times, demands of us to birth something new. If optimism is defined in the dictionary as ‘hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something’, then standing in the present moment eyes wide open in the discovery of our truth is the first step in revisioning a world with love, joy, balance and sustainability. We must each embody the confidence in our ability to hold strong to our positive intentions even if it means visioning a story for which there is no external leader to guide us and no guarantees for its outcome.
I braved the single digit cold snap of the holidays here in North Carolina to see the film The Greatest Showman. Im not the biggest fan of musicals but I admire the pairing of a great story with those who have incredible talent to tell it. Some of the songwriting is out of this world and so poignantly captures much of the cultural and social challenges we face today. How do we shape-shift our stories and become leaders in our everyday lives who have the ability to guide with optimism while things are crumbling at our feet?
It’s up to you
And its up to me
No one can say what we get to be
And why don’t we rewrite the stars?
Changing the world to be ours…
Science tells us we are particles of star dust spinning through infinity, polarities dancing in and out of each others orbits forever transforming the world as well as our own personal universe. I recently ran across some information that parallels these ideas as a part of my personal 2017 review in preparation for visioning 2018. It was a series of articles about last years planetary configurations written by astrologer Eric Francis of Planet Waves called “The Book of Your Life”. The piece he composed for the sun sign Sagittarius (that’s me x2), reveals some of the newest discoveries in astronomy and how their influences may be expressed through our personal astrology. http://bookofyour.life/project-credits.
What was fascinating for me was that the article opened with a video produced by naturevideo entitled “Laniakea: Our Home Supercluster” which reveals an amazing journey of how scientists are using new mapping techniques that reveal the universal flow of life within this grand universe. This starry spectacle is a reminder of how important it is to change lenses in order to see what is often right in front of us. Eric suggests that “In psychological astrology, Saturn (who has been residing in Sag for all of us over the last 2.5 years) represents the authority principle. For most of us this exists outside of ourselves.” I know from my own experience we tend to learn by breaking rules, fighting regulations and resisting imposed cultural beliefs until we open our minds to the idea “…it’s preferable to internalize that principle, and become your own authority.”
This sounds simple yet it is not always easy to master the piece about owning your own power and creating life from your own internal guidance which takes a lot of trust. He continues, “It’s interesting to note the planet that rules Sagittarius is the Earth. Therefore, everything about your existence, and your experience here on Earth, is spiritual. Saturn is in your life to help you ground your experience on Earth in a way that you can only do here and now.”
In these transformational times it feels critical to align our heart and our vision with the bigger picture of our souls’s path and to see what is happening around us through a clear lens. May you stand in the light of your heart’s optimism, embrace this spiritual journey you are having as a human being and rewrite the stars as you reflect the changes you want to see in the world. Aho!
Drumming With The Moon
At The Epione Clinic: February 1, 2018, 7-8:30 pm
THIS WILL BE A SUPER BLUE BLOOD MOON IN PERIGEE! What does all this mean? It’s the second full moon in January (blue) coinciding with a total lunar eclipse (blood) and in it’s closest approach to Earth in a single orbit. It is in the sign of Leo…so live in the eye of the heart. Release and plant new “seeds” for your intentions will have an effect for months to come.
We will gather in ceremony each month to explore sacred symbols through a divination technique and their wisdom teachings during these changing times. Bring a drum and/or rattle, journal, etc. to 19 Zillacoa St, Suite 3, 28801. See Epione’s event calendar at: www.epioneintegratedclinic.com, or go to desireedemars.com or call 312-437-4325 for details.
