Winter 2016/Sacred Symbols
THE REAL MAGIC OF EVERYDAY
I love how Robert Moss, creator of Active Dreaming, describes real magic: “Real magic is the art of bringing gifts from a deeper world into this world.” I believe in this sense we are all artists creating life each day, step by step, moment by moment, adventure by adventure. The better we get at being more conscious about activating our creative potential, the more amazing life becomes.
What is really exciting about the adventuresome aspect of this is that we don’t need to go any further than our own back yard! Sacred is in every present moment and by honing our skills of awareness and trusting our inner sense of knowing, the sound of a jet, a neighbor singing a tune, a billboard, the chirp of a bird, a penny on the sidewalk…anything can be a clue, a sacred symbol, a link or a message that gives us insight or an answer to a question we have been seeking.
This year I took a dive into deeper layers of Sacred Symbols by committing to a mentorship of learning the process of a divination practice I call Reading Sacred Symbols. The practice is based on the work of my mentor Gogo Gretchen Krilly McKay and an ancient African system known as Reading the Bones which was passed on to her by her teacher over the span of 15+ years in Africa, P.H. Mtshali. (ancestralwisdom.com)
As I moved through my process of collecting individual objects for my set (photo above), I began to receive guidance about creating specific larger pieces that could be used as tools for transformational healing work. Slowly things came together quarter by quarter, season by season and manifested into 4 personal objects: Amulet, Rattle, Talking Stick and Medicine Bundle.
The three amulets below were my first tools created: (from left to right) Finding Direction, Butterfly and Red Jasper Scarab.
Each tool has a specific gift and symbolic meaning: Amulet: Returning the Integrity of Relationship with Self, Rattle: Prayer; Calling In A New Dream, Talking Stick: Telling Stories; Expressions of Power (photo below) and Medicine Bundle: Opening To Your Own Power. A few weeks ago I was blessed to have my completion ceremony on the beach in Laguna, California with a symphony of waves, the wind and sea creatures! I will share more about each piece in future newsletters.
MUSEUM OF ENCAUSTIC ART 2017
I have shared my work in past newsletters showing in the Member’s Gallery of the Encaustic Art Institute and in my last newsletter I posted photos of classes I taught this fall. Soon EAI (eainm.com) will be receiving the status of the Museum of Encaustic Art, which will open more opportunities for grants.
The painting on the left front of the photo below, is my piece currently on display: Oneness. You can see more of my encaustic paintings on my GALLERY page.
WINDOWS OF THE EARTH
In October I experienced a stunning transformational creation of the world-renowned “cave digger” Ra Paulette. Just a few miles from the historic hot springs at Ojo Caliente and hop skip and a jump from Georgia O’Keefe’s home in the village of Abiquiu, the earth cave sanctuary is stunning. A labor of love, the chamber was a perfect place to take in a Tibetan bowl meditation and revitalize my body, mind and spirit surrounded by Mother Earth’s healing frequency.
I am now offering Compassionate and Holistic Pet Care, House Sitting & Personal Assistant Services. I have over 20 years of experience in the US and abroad. Call 312-437-4325 for more information or for a list of referrals.
MY MOMENT WITH MATT
I spent a lot of time in Asheville late summer and fall and one of the highlights was attending a beautiful gathering with Matt Kahn & Julie Dittmar. As many of you know, they travel the world inviting people to discover their true divine nature and leading exercises in self-love.It was a full house and I was lucky to have some one on one with Matt…need I say more?
I had the opportunity to facilitate a group reading in Asheville this fall, which is a wonderful way to experience sacred objects. It is can reveal both the big picture and how you personally fit into that…and you get immediate feedback from others if you wish. It is a lovely way of really feeling the sense of how everything is connected.
We begin by having each person select an object that they feel represents them from the collection. Then as I rattle, we offer a prayer of thanks to the guiding spirits, guides, angels and/or teachers and hold an intention for the group. Simultaneously, each individual holds a personal inquiry or question within their hearts and together we blow into the basket containing the objects three times. Finally the objects are thrown onto a cloth and the guidance is revealed by the patterns and locations in which the objects land.
New awareness and confirmation of what is already a reality shows up…magic happens! Its always amazing how the personal object chosen seems to reflect so much to the participant and how those who know one another are able to confirm what shows up in the meaning or understanding of the message. There are many layers of interpretation within the pattern of all the pieces as a whole and relationship of where the pieces land in proximity to one another.
I have done this both in person and online via Skype or the phone. There is no limitation with time or space. It is all in the now. For more information see my SERVICES page.
PERUVIAN BONE READING
Around the time of the Super Full Moon in November 2016, I was gifted with another group experience, this time one of receiving! It was a Peruvian Bone Reading with JoAnne Dodgson, who I have worked with before. It was powerful and extensive and seemed to reflect so much about the greater wisdom that this planet and the creatures and her inhabitants are here offering every moment, if we are so willing to be aware of it!
The Peruvian divination system focuses on plant and animal spirits and their natural way of being as an expression of their gifts to us. We can embody these wisdom teachings in relationship to almost every situation we ourselves are in or another way to put it is that we are offered the gift choose to shift our perception about what goes on within and around us by applying these teachings.
Much of the overall theme seemed to reflect the idea that we are all needing to experience a lot of letting go of the old (Whale), clarify our own personal vision (Sun/Song), be open to new ways of giving/receiving healing (Osha Root) and activate passion for our truths (River). Play expressed itself through Wild Boar by asking: “What is most delicious about life for you in relationships?” Hmmmm….yummy question!!!
