Encaustic pieces are created by melting together beeswax, damar (tree resin) and oil based pigments. The properties of this medium allows for building textures and materials to be embedded and/or layers
to be built up, scraped, burnished or carved away.
Encaustic prints are made by pressing paper into the wax medium and pigments on a heated palette.
The surface can be further altered with a torch or heat gun for additional detail work.
These pieces are primarily smooth surfaces created with a torch or heat gun and blended layer by layer.
Layers of texture are built by fusing and sometimes carving or scraping areas to create a sculptural effect.
