Where Do We Go From Here? Encaustic Mixed Media Collage
EXPLORE ENCAUSTICS THIS FALL @ ROGUE GALLERY + ART CENTER
Saturday, Oct. 24, 11am-3pm: Encaustic Basics + Saturday, Nov. 7: 11am-3pm for a deeper dive!
Encaustic means “to heat or to burn in” and uses a medium of beeswax, pigment and resin as the foundation. Originating with Greek shipbuilders waterproofing vessels and decorating statures around the 5th century BC, it thrived in Roman Egypt with the famous Fayum mummy portraits around 1st-3rd centuries AD.
We will explore this luminous ancient art and learn now to paint with a beeswax based medium. Along with basic techniques using wood cradles, you will explore how to integrate mixed media to create collages and mono-prints on a variety of papers. The November class will expand on methods and techniques taught in the previous class, intended for those who want to further explore and understand the nuances and infinite possibilities of beeswax, tree resin and pigments!
